The Official Community Plan 6/2006
As of June 2006, the City unveiled the offical plan for Valencia Street at the June 13th Community meeting. The plan is based on the work done in the community planning workshops conducted in 2006. The BVP is generally excited about the plan and is working to see it implemented. The slide presentation of the plan can be viewed from the link below.
The plan involves:
- removing the center lane on Valencia, except for left turn pockets on various intersections
- widening the sidewalk from the current 10ft to 15ft (where there is no left turn pocket) or 13ft (where a left turn pocket exists)
- Restriping various parking spaces to accomodate sidewalk loading zones for business loading/unloading, including spaces for large trucks
- widening the bike lanes
- adding a great deal of street trees and street furniture
- varying the details of furniture, paving, and trees for different “neighborhoods” on Valencia
The expected cost is $15 million for complete work from Market to Mission Street including repaving the street. (NOTE: I’m writing this from memory & expect to fix it shortly)
Of this:
- $2.5 Million for repaving (from Market to Mission) is already committed.
- $1 Million for a pilot project from 16th to 17th from the City’s Livable City / Great Street Project has already been committed.
- The City has applied for regional and county grants for $6 Million to allow completion from 17th to 19th.
- Additional funding sources at the city & state level are being pursued.
THE CITY’S PRESENTATION ON THE PLAN CAN BE VIEWED HERE.
NOTE THAT DETAILS ON LOADING/UNLOADING & Parking will be added shortly.
(thanks Marshall Foster, Martha Ketterer, John Dennis & everyone for their hard work on this)
